Right away: these 7 steps
- Take the device out of the water and switch it off – even if it still works. Power and moisture cause short circuits and corrosion.
- Do not charge it or plug in a cable until the device has been checked.
- Remove the case and SIM card so moisture can escape.
- Dry the outside with a lint-free cloth. Hold the device gently with the charging port facing down.
- No hair dryer, radiator or oven – heat damages the battery, adhesive and display.
- No rice: it barely draws moisture from inside, and starch and grains can get into the openings.
- Bring it to us as quickly as possible. The sooner the device is opened and cleaned, the better the chances.
Why a "waterproof" phone can still be damaged
Modern iPhones and Galaxy models are water-resistant (IP67/IP68), but not waterproof forever. Seals age, and after a drop or a repair the protection is often weaker. Salt water, chlorine, soap or drinks are particularly aggressive.
Even if the phone works again after drying, corrosion can develop inside and cause failures days or weeks later – for example when charging, with the speaker or with Face ID.
What we do in the workshop
We open the device, check the board for moisture and corrosion and clean the affected areas. Then we tell you honestly whether a repair is worthwhile and what it costs.
The diagnosis is free if we carry out the repair – otherwise it costs CHF 49. If the device cannot be saved, we try to recover your photos and data.
