These signs point to a new battery
- The phone no longer lasts a day, even though you do not use it more than before.
- It suddenly switches off at 20–30 % or in the cold.
- The device becomes slow or laggy – iPhones throttle performance when the battery is weak.
- Battery health is below 80 % (see below how to check).
- Warning: if the display or back is bulging, the battery is swollen. Stop charging the phone and bring it in as soon as possible.
How to check battery health
- iPhone: Settings › Battery › Battery Health. Below 80 % a replacement is recommended.
- Samsung Galaxy: in the "Samsung Members" app › Diagnostics › Battery status.
- Google Pixel: Settings › Battery › Battery health (on newer models).
